Tess began her career and is currently still involved in posting videos pertaining to makeup or fashion. Most of her content is based in New York City where she advertises the latest trends walking the streets and showing off not only her clothes but her city. She uses voice-overs to discuss her fashion, including recommendations and places that she found her outfit from. She flourishes in creating an aesthetic look to her trends, making her audience more intrigued in what she is advertising. "A number of companies have formed alliances with Youtube, one of the primary video-sharing sites with billions of subscribers worldwide, to distribute content via multiple platforms" (The Media Economy, page 73). Tess partners with different companies to promote their products in exchange for profit or in-store incentives. She is able to inform the younger, fashion-intrigued public on what is in style and where to find it. Companies use Youtube to reach their audience through public figures that have influence over what they are advertising. "Youtube is a free service where subscribers can upload videos of any quality, thereby sharing them with a potential audience numbering hundreds of millions" (Is 'Youtube' Telling or Selling You Something, page 1). This highlights the influence Youtube has on society which leads to the influence Tess has on her viewers. Since her videos receive millions of views, she is able to share a company's products with intentions of that clothing/ makeup company to benefit from it.
Tess Christine lives in New York City which means she is exposed to high-priced fashions. She includes stores like Zara, Urban Outfitters, Lulu's, and many more in her videos. "We see how the vlogger's rhetoric protects her image of transparency and the positive social environment; these are deeply-entrenched social values of the hauling and vlogging community created by the young female consumer" (The Revolution Will Be Sooo Cute: Youtube "Hauls" and the Voice of Young Female Consumers, page 3). Tess Christine presents an image of herself that highlights her high quality style and luxurious sense of life. The more "successful" a Youtuber portrays to be in the real world, the stronger their audience will be. People look up to those that look like they have it all and got it easy. That is what creates an inspiration in viewers like the ones Tess has. "The networked structure of interactions on Youtube and the tremendous variation in the success of videos posted online lends itself to an inquiry of the role of social influence" (Social Networks and the Diffusion of Use-Generated Content: Evidence from Youtube, page 1). They watch her videos, observe that she is on Youtube and is successful from that through her fashion sense and want that for themselves. Youtube is a chain of people who found inspiration through someone else online and used that to create a channel of their own and find fame and success in that.
You could say that Tess is your average Youtuber. She lives in a big city with a big audience in her career where she shops and shows off her styles. You will find this lifestyle as a pattern in many Youtube stars. It is almost like people in this field start to become clones of each other. Tess is creative in that she has a style of her own, but you can see the high influence of many other Youtubers like her and how the differences between them are extremely limited. Tess has accumulated the least amount of subscribers compared to the rest of the Youtubers on this blog due to the fact that she does represent a typical young girl on Youtube, and you can find that anywhere. Youtube's content is filled with inspired makeup gurus who are wanting to share their growing hobby with the internet community. But Tess still finds a way to be unique in the fact that she is from New York and her style is controlled by her taste in vintage.
